I have always wanted to work from home. I always wished I had been home schooled, Home is one of my core desired feelings. Nester, introvert, home-body. My home makes me happy.
So now I work from home. I began about two years ago slowly transitioning from a corporate job. I built trust and worked hard and honed my negotiating skills. When review time came up and I was told that a raise was not in the pipeline I was able to make my move. “In lieu of a raise what would you say to my working from home two days a week?” I explained how it wouldn’t cost them a thing, that I would get the same amount of work done or more and that it would have a tremendous positive impact on my quality of life. That seemed reasonable enough and they agreed. I learned how to skillfully request this arrangement by reading Tim Ferriss’s book “The 4 Hour Workweek”. He was on to something. One of the best benefits of this arrangement was that I saved about 8 hours of commuting time a week which I was able to channel into building my life coaching business. I also became a Desire Map Licensee which opened all kinds of doors to being of service and earning a living in a soulful, skillful way. One year ago I was able to cut the cord to the corporate job and move completely to working for myself. Working from home.
Today home is in Thailand. The photo in this email is a beautiful bamboo bridge where I live. It symbolizes the strength of combining home and work and the balance therein. I live at the New Life Foundation, a recovery community for all kinds of people working on themselves and improving their lives. I live here and I work here as a life coach. I work from home because I literally live where I work.
Hand in hand with my affinity for home is my desire to travel. How can the two meet?
Balance, leveraging the digital economy, getting rid of all my books and embracing the kindle, choosing 3 pairs of shoes and 2 pieces of luggage and one airplane ticket.
Realizing that home is in the heart has been instrumental in cultivating this feeling of groundedness while abroad, while anywhere.
Balance is so dynamic.
Balance is not something you get or have.
Balance is a byproduct of integrity and commitment to the vision of what balance looks like to you.
Balance is not derived from hard work but being true to your WORD.
Balance needs, therefore to include a promise to one’s self for fun, solitude, relaxation, and peace.
Balance will not show up on a doorstep one day nor will 6 pack abs or prince charming.
Balance is a result of strength and flexibility in the muscular system. When I have paid attention and shown up for my muscles in a consistent way - I have better balance. BETTER balance, not complete balance. Balance as a final destination is a myth because balance is dynamic. Always moving. Electric. Working. Working from home.
Have a wonderful day,
