“Last night I had the privilege of attending Royal Pain Shakespears Co.’s reading of a stupendously good new play, “Drift” by Patrick Gabridge. It’s a play about grief and the way it rearranges each of us... and about the various poisons - within and without - we find ourselves living with and how long we’ll tolerate them. But most of all, for me, this play’s about hope and where it fits within the ever-evolving seasons of life. How just when you think the soil can yield absolutely nothing more that’s good, new growth finds its way to the light. I promise I’m barely skimming the surface of what turned out to be a poetic and deeply moving piece but it, combined with an extraordinary cast and ideal direction — well, I was completely transported. Reminding me once again that great theatre really can happen anywhere - in this case, downtown with music stands and folding chairs. All it takes is what I got to witness last night. I floated home.”
